Give Claude a To-Do List It Can Actually Keep

If you already use Claude, you can give it a real to-do list. How the connection works, what it can do, and why Ranya works fully on her own.

By Shekib AzizPublished Updated 7 min read

Claude can help you think through a week, but the list it writes stays in that chat: not on a board, and nothing ticks it off as you go. A to-do list only helps if it lives somewhere you will see it tomorrow, so a Claude to-do list needs a home outside the conversation.

Ranya is a complete planner on her own: call her, type to her or tap, and your tasks, calendar, goals and habits stay in one place. If you already use Claude, you can also connect it to Ranya, free on any Ranya plan. That part is optional.

    1. You ask in ClaudeAdd a task to send the slides
    2. The Ranya connectorApproved once, with your Ranya account
    3. Your real tasks changeIn your Ranya Inbox, boards or calendar
IllustrationOptional: Claude can reach your Ranya tasks, notes, goals and habits.

A request typed in Claude goes through the Ranya connector, approved once with your Ranya account, and changes your real tasks in Ranya.

Can Claude manage my to-do list?

Not on its own. Picture Sunday evening: you spend twenty minutes with Claude sorting out the week, and you end up with a good plan. On Monday at nine, that plan is three conversations back, and the one thing that mattered is buried in a chat you are not looking at.

Connected to Ranya, Claude works with the list you already keep. Ask "What's due on my boards this week?" and it reads your real boards before it answers. Ask it to add a task, and the task is in Ranya, where you will find it tomorrow.

What is an MCP connector in Claude?

An MCP connector lets Claude read and change data in another app, such as your Ranya tasks. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, which Anthropic introduced in November 2024 as a shared way for apps to offer their data and actions to an assistant.

Ranya offers one that you add yourself, as a custom connector. Claude can then use Ranya's tools much as it would look something up: read a board, create a task, log a habit. Every request runs as you, so Claude only sees your own data.

What can Claude do with Ranya?

It works with the same boards, notes, goals and habits you use every day:

    • Ask what is due. Your real boards come back, not a guess.
    • Create and update tasks. With priorities, checklists, due dates and tags. Complete, move and pin them as you talk.
    • Take notes. Save ideas into your notebooks mid-conversation.
    • Check goals and log habits. Ask how your goals are going, or log your day in one line.

    Before

    This week

    1Work

    Finish the proposal

    After you ask Claude

    This week

    2Work

    Finish the proposal

    Send the slides

Typed in Claude"Add a task to send the slides, in This week on my Work board."

ExampleWhat Claude adds lands on your real board: Send the slides is now in This week, on Work.

Example Ranya board list, Work, This week. Before: one task, Finish the proposal. After you ask Claude to add a task to send the slides: Send the slides sits under it, and the count goes from 1 to 2.

Boards, task lists and notes can also appear as Ranya views right inside the conversation.

    Can Claude see my calendar?

Through Ranya, yes. Ask what is on this week, and Claude sees your dated tasks next to events from any Google, Outlook or iCloud calendar you have added to Ranya. If a Claude calendar integration for your tasks is what you came for, that is the part Ranya adds: give a task a date and it shows up on your Ranya calendar.

    Today

    Team standup

9 to 9:15, from another calendar, read only

    Design review

11 to 12, from another calendar, read only

    Finish the proposal

    9:30 to 11

Example dayWhat Claude reads when you ask what is on: your dated task, and meetings from a calendar you added, which keep their dashed edge because they are read only.

Example Ranya calendar, today from 9 to 12: Team standup, 9 to 9:15, and Design review, 11 to 12, from another calendar and read only, with the task Finish the proposal from 9:30 to 11.

The calendars you add stay read only, through Claude too. Claude can hide an event from your Ranya view, as you can, but the calendar it came from does not change.

Do I need a paid plan to connect Claude?

Not on Ranya's side: the Claude connection works with any Ranya account, including the free plan. Claude's side is up to Claude. Custom connectors depend on your Claude plan, and Claude's connector settings show whether yours has them.

How to connect Claude to Ranya

You need a Ranya account, and the free plan works. If you do not have one yet, start free first. Then you connect once, in five steps.

    1. Copy your connection URL

On the Claude page, press Copy. If you are signed in to Ranya, the same URL is in Settings, under Connections.

    2. Open Claude's connectors

In claude.ai or the Claude desktop app, go to Customize, then Connectors. Then click "+ Add".

    3. Add a custom connector

Click "Add custom connector" and paste the Ranya connection URL from the Claude page. Give it a name you will know, such as Ranya, then click Add.

    4. Approve access

Claude sends you to Ranya to log in and approve. You stay in control, and Claude only sees your own data. Ranya's own screen lists what the connection can do. The list is long because the connection reaches what Ranya's own assistant can, Gmail included if you have connected it. Read it, then choose Allow access.

      Connect Claude to Ranya?

      Signed in as you@example.com

Claude is asking to access your Ranya account. It will be able to:

      • Read, change, delete and restore your tasks, boards, notes, goals, habits and focus sessions
      • See your calendar and hide events from it, and change what Ranya remembers about you
      • Read, draft, send, archive and label email in your connected Gmail
      • Search what you have dictated, read your notifications, restore deleted chats, and change your dictation and model settings
      DenyAllow access

Only allow access for apps you trust. You can disconnect at any time by removing the connection in the app you started from.

Example screenRanya's approval screen, simplified, with Claude as the app asking. It says what the connection can do before you allow it.

Ranya's approval screen, Connect Claude to Ranya?, signed in as an example address, listing what Claude will be able to do with your tasks, notes, goals, habits, calendar, memory and Gmail, above two buttons: Deny and Allow access.

    5. Ask your first question

Back in Claude, type "What's due on my boards this week?" To disconnect later, go back to Customize, then Connectors, and remove Ranya.

Do I need Claude to use Ranya?

No. You can call Ranya and plan your day out loud, type to her in Ranya's chat, or use the app by tap and type. In Ranya's own chat and calls, nothing in your work changes until you say yes, which is why Ranya asks first.

    • Call Ranya

Press Command Comma on any page, or tap the Ranya button.

      "Plan my day with me."

    • Type in Chat

Open Chat and type it the way you would say it.

      "What's on today?"

    • Tap and type

Press Command J to add a task to your Inbox. On a phone, tap the plus at the top of Home.

Add to Inbox: Book the physio

      ⌘J
ExampleRanya on her own: call, type or tap. Claude is one more door, not the house.

Three ways to use Ranya without Claude, each with an example: call Ranya with Command comma or the Ranya button, type in Ranya's chat, or add a task with Command J, or on a phone with the plus at the top of Home.

Whatever Claude can reach through the connector, you can also ask Ranya for directly. See everything you can do on a call.

Tips for a Claude to-do list you will keep using

    • Name the board and list. "Add a task to send the slides, in This week on my Work board." Without a list, an undated task goes to your Inbox, and a dated one goes on your calendar.
    • Read before you plan. Start with "What's due on my boards this week?" so Claude plans around what is already there.
    • Keep the thinking. When a conversation is worth keeping, ask Claude to save it as a note in Ranya.
